WHO IS CONSIDERED A CARER?

A carer is anyone, including children and adults who look after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support.  The care they give is unpaid.

We are interested in identifying carers, especially those who  may be caring without help or support.  We know carers are often "hidden" looking after a family member or helping a friend or neighbour with day to day tasks and may not see themselves as a carer.

Caring for someone is an important and valuable role in the community, which is often a 24 hour job that can be very demanding and isolating for the carer.  Carers should receive appropriate support by way of access to accurate information on a range of topics such as entitlement to benefits and respite care and not least, a listening ear when things get too much.

As a Carer, you are also entitled to have your needs assessed by the Carers Centre.  A Carer's Assessment is a chance to talk about your needs as a carer and the possible ways help could be given.  It also looks at the needs of the person you care for.  There is no charge for this assessment.  Please visit NHS Inform Support for Unpaid Carers for more information.

If you are a carer please complete our Carers Identification and Referral Form and return to the Practice either by email, post or hand it in at reception.

HUB WORKING AT NORTH AYR HEALTH CENTRE

The Practice is now able to offer appointments with a Primary Care Nurse and Health Care Support Worker based at North Ayr Health Centre, Glenmuir Place, Ayr, KA8 9RS.  The Practice Nurse and HCSW based at North Ayr Health Centre are able to offer services such as blood tests, wound care, suture removal, ear assessment/irrigation, B12 injections as well as other nursing interventions.

If it would be easier for you and you are willing to attend the North Ayr Health Centre instead of coming to the surgery, please let the receptionist when you call the surgery to arrange your appointment.
